Anorak scoops the people’s prize in the inaugural Fink Tank Dragon’s Den

A new app designed to make buying life insurance quicker and simpler triumphed on the Fin-k Tank ‘Dragon’s Den’.

Four groups went head to head at our inaugural Fin-k Tank conference, judged by a panel of experienced FinTech investors.

The popular vote went to Anorak, a life insurance and income protection provider, which aims to ease the journey of finding and buying the right life insurance. David Vanek, CEO and Founder, said: “There are 9m without life insurance in the UK, and another 35m in the US. We want to make life insurance as accessible as possible.” It secured 51% of the overall votes.

Of particular interest to the Dragons, however, was Zetaris, a new data fabric technology, which lets organisations connect to every possible data point and help define their decision-making. Dragon Dharmash Mistry, venture capitalist and angel investor, said: “We invest in companies where there is a clear problem and a solution that is 50-100% better. We see lots of people have data living everywhere and in a mess. Zetaris seems to push on this significant problem.”

Also on the platform was Richard Crook, Head of Emerging Technology at RBS talking speaking on the next generation of fund creation on block chain. He discussed the idea that people want to own and manage their own wealth without an intermediary, as they have been able to do with cyrptocurrencies.

Sebastian Comment, Managing Director at Clever Circles, an app started in Europe, showed how the app allows investors to harness the wisdom of crowds, giving them the ability to create their own investment committee of family, friends and experts.
